Why Does Your Body Develop Eczema?
Seperate types of dermatitis, or inflammation of the skin, that can affect human skin are called Eczema. Physical indications of eczema vary among types, yet a common complaint of many sufferers is peristantly itchy and irritated skin. Eczema can exist on almost every part of the body; however, in most cases you will find it on the face, neck, arms, and lower legs.
Despite the fact that eczema tends to be fairly temporary in many infants, it can appear in adults on a chronic basis and cause a multitude of uncomfortable sysmptoms. Another form of eczema, contact dermatitis, affects many people every year and is characterized mainly by redness, itching, and burning of the skin. This form is usually a reaction to an allergen or irritating substance that has touched the skin. For example, poison sumac is known to cause this type of dermatitis. Potential causes of contact dermatitis include detergents, cosmetics, cleaning products, clothing, and even perspiration. Especially if the irritant is unknown, there is a possibility of contact dermatitis remaining for longer period of time, even though most cases tend to be short lived.
Seborrheic eczema is a skin disorder of unkown origin that deals with issues such as dandruff, dry scalp, and infant cradle cap. When suffering from this type of eczema you will note symptoms such as scaly, yellow, and oily patches of the skin which are mainly found on the scalp and face. The skin may or may not itch. In acute cases, seborrheic eczema can eventually lead to hair loss. Most common triggers for seborrheic eczema are genetics, stress, and weather factors. In case oily skin is the underlying reason for eczema, it is important to avoid products that strip moisture from the skin as this will make the eczema even worse.
In order to best treat the afflicted skin, the class of eczema must first be correctly identified. Depending upon the type and severity of the disorder, symptoms may range from dry, red skin to skin that is scaling and leathery to cracking and weeping of the irritated area. Blisters, rashes, and lesions might appear and, in some cases, infection of the skin can occur. This is why it’s best to identify eczema as soon as possible and treat it before it gets worse.
